From a business perspective, Martin and Wilhelm were quite successful. Their profits steadily increased until the closure of their textile firm in 1935 or 1936, after the Nazis blocked the renewal of the building lease. Despite the unlikelihood of a Jewish businessman finding an available building to rent, the Ansbacher cousins began the search for a new location. They found non-occupied rooms at Isargestade 728. Despite opposing pressure from the National Socialists, the building owner agreed to offer the Ansbachers a lease.

A Nazi trustee wanted to purchase the house at 38 Seligenthalerstrasse, where the Ansbacher family was living. Gustav and Fritz Ansbacher had to consent to the sale. They were promised that if they agreed to sell the house, Martin and Wilhelm Ansbacher would be released from the concentration camp. Through this exchange, the cousins were released in January 1939.
